(諦, 谛)
To judge, examine into, investigate, used in Buddhism for (sa) satya, a truth, a dogma, an axiom; applied to the (sa) āryasatyāni, the four dogmas, or noble truths, of [lang id =1028]苦, [lang id =1028]集, [lang id =1028]滅, and [lang id =1028]道 suffering, (the cause of its) assembly, the ( possibility of its cure, or) extinction, and the way (to extinction), i.e. the eightfold noble path, v. [lang id =1028]四諦 and [lang id =1028]八聖道. There are other categories of [lang id =1028]諦, e.g.
(2) [lang id =1028]真 and [lang id =1028]俗 Reality in contrast with ordinary ideas of things;
(3) [lang id =1028]空, [lang id =1028]假 and [lang id =1028]中 q.v.
(6) by the [lang id =1028]勝論宗; and
(8) by the [lang id =1028]法相宗.
